Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! The Pros and Cons about living abroad on Thanksgiving.

Image
Thanksgiving is pretty much my one favorite holiday out of the year and sadly for me not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving. Living in Vienna has pros and cons when it comes to Thanksgiving. When living abroad Thanksgiving is not anything to shake a stick at and days off or big feasts with family are just non-existant. If you have your family living with you than is this not so much a big deal since you are togther unlike when living alone. The benefits of not living in the States during Thanksgiving is you will always find a Turkey, Markets are never jammed pack with last minute shoppers, it is just much more laid back. This year I decided when I woke up in the morning that I myself would not let my favorite holiday just slip by but rather I was going to cook for my boyfriend and myself our very own Thanksgiving feast. As we were only 2 people and knowing that there would be side dishes I was not wanting to spend a lot of money on a bird and then in the end have to throw it o...

An Unforgettable Weekend.

Image
This past Friday my lovely boyfriend and I went out on a very interesting date. We went to a dinner that was being hosted in a catering service's test kitchen and the tables were intergrated into parts of the kitchen that was not being needed. It was an eight course meal and all organic, made right in front of you to see. It was hosted by  Adventure Catering Vienna to get more information or wanting to attend go to  Chef's Table . The links are only in German. It was a lovely evening and just out of this world food. They also served a different wine every course and there were eight of them, and when arriving you are also given a glass of champagne, if you are not one to drink much they also had a variety of very delicious natural juices. It was probably one of the best meals I have ever had. If I could I would go back again or atleast try to be friends with the chef. Now being that it was eight courses and everything was being made right in front of us we arrived at 6:30 a...

Let's Have a Shindig!

Image
This past Sunday I had thrown my boyfriend's mother a belated birthday dinner party, due to the recent travels we have not been able to celebrate. So that meant me in a crazed rush to buy everything, clean my small apartment, bake, cook and decorate. I also recently have purchased a small two person sofa so that was another highlight of this past weekend. Now I am proud to say that everything went off without a hitch and now here to share some photos of my lovely creation. That's going to be about it for today. One more note before I close up shop, the weather right now in Vienna is quite lovely it makes me fall in love with Fall. :)

Budapest With Friends On a Tight Budget!

Image
This past Friday and Saturday I was with my friends from my German class in Budapest, Hungary. I can certainly tell you that it was more fun then I had imagined. We three have become each others foundation in the living far away from our homes but we all have different countries that we call home, so it makes traveling together certainly interesting. At the Parliment with the Danube behind us. Transportation: We spent around 50€ for two days in Budapest, that is including the wonderful Hostel we stayed in for one night and also public transport. We went from Vienna to Budapest since it is only a 3 hour drive away. There are many buslines in Europe which makes traveling around easier, the busline we used was Orange Ways  and found that to be the cheapest one for round ticket it costed 22€ and I do believe if you have larger bags it costs 1€ per bag. Since we had a very short stay we only had backpacks. Parliment The Hostel: We stayed in a very quaint and homey hostal Pa...

Friends, Empanadas, and Budepest.

Image
Recently I have been on Easter Break. This week has been filled with so many activities with my friends, and I can be the first one to say that it has been so much fun. We have gone to Naschmarkt, and a few Asian Stores in the area looking around buying a few needed ingredients, since my friend K told me she would teach how to make Empanadas. So we planned a small cooking and dinner party K, our friend O, and I.  I have not had one day to do nothing, my feet are hurting and wishing right now for a good foot rub. The past three days I have done my fair share of walking looking at tea, spices, the inner city and a bit of Prater. K and I worked very hard for these yummy empanadas, about 3 hours! Everything was made from scratch and authentic, while K is from South America so it was her special recipie. I love cooking with other people, it creates a light atmosphere and very relaxing. I am so glad that we are becoming more active with one another and this Easter Break has given...

What a day!

Image
So today was a good day, walked around the city a bit and just enjoyed the beautiful day. It was the perfect type of winter days I could live with. Of course I have been hearing so much about the Wiener Eistraum and have been wanting to go pretty bad since being the girl from South Florida I haven't EVER ice skated outside. So I made a visit over to the Rathaus and watched the little kids and people ice skate on this fairly large ice skating rink. I also found something that I have been looking for, for the past.....8 MONTHS! I really wasn't hungry since I had a yummy lunch at a small resturant called Spirlia (I believe that is how they spelt it) anyways take the 13A from Mariahilfestaße direction Alser Straße and you will find it. Now it was good and had a nice atmosphere, but slightly on the expensive side for a portion of food that isn't so grand. Other than that it certain had a good atmosphere if you are a student it was packed with other students taking their lunch...

Coffee, Food and Photos.

Image
First of all, I want to start this note on mentioning I am starting to believe I should possibaly post some photos of everything. Maybe that will make this a bit more intersting since I don't know looking at pictures is the best part of reading blogs. Well, that is atleast my opion when it comes to blogs since if they keep on going with no pictures I find them not that interesting. So pictures will start coming, but I just started this whole blogging thing and just figured out how to ''follow'' somebody on blogger. Give me a break and let me get into the swing of somethings and hopefully later this week the blog will be as colorful as my life. Second thing, as an American I am used to a different style of coffee which I have to say I am missing a little bit. Good thing about living in Vienna is that the city is known for their coffeehouses and even though I don't smoke coffee houses in Vienna have an atmosphere you can't miss. Even though I unfortunatly su...
